Denise Speaks about Mirror Mirror
After spending many years working with women and children struggling with eating problems and then seeing so many of them succumb to serious addictions and afflictions, Denise decided it was time to tackle the problem at its source. First, she wrote her faerytale "Mirror Mirror" for some of the girls she was working with and then, over time she developed a number of programs for those weighed down with negative body image.
`...the need for prevention is obvious. Unfortunately many approaches have not worked. They have simply supplied information without positively affecting behaviour. I have pioneered holistic approaches to intervention and prevention which have successfully transformed the lives of hundreds of women and girls...'
`...years of research and clinical experience have reinforced for me, the connection between body, mind and spirit. Women hunger for a healthy integrated Self (both psychological and spiritual). Instead, they have been seduced by the promises of a narcissistic society which offers them temporary and costly relief for their existential pain. While `health' and self-improvement industries thrive, girls and women continue to suffer serious identity disorders...'
`...As a practising psychologist and educator, specialising in image and eating disorders, I have met many young people with dangerously low self esteem, unhealthy lifestyles, para suicidal behaviours and identity problems. My professional experience has convinced me of the need for a holistic approach. Hence the development my programs which are not reliant on traditional learning methods or basic behavioural approaches...'
`...My Mirror Mirror programs for women and girls are born out of many years of experience working with them. They tell me what they want. They want to be seen, understood, accepted, recognised, valued and respected. They want to know their real purpose and place in life. The Mirror Mirror programs are a response to their need...'
