The Mirror Mirror Mentor Program

Mentors play a very important role in the Mirror Mirror Programs. They support the younger participants by being there for them, preparing the feast for them and serving them. A trusting relationship is formed between the mentors and the participants in the initial 3-4 hour session, conducted by Denise.

Mentors are usually aged between 15 and 17 yrs old but we have had older mentors, for example when the Body Shop sponsored the program, the mentors were Body Shop employees.

Mentors are at the age where they want responsibility and leadership opportunity and training. The Mirror Mirror Mentor Program provides just that, whilst allowing the mentors to reflect on their own image making processes. The mentors usually love the fairytale as much as the younger girls and often they request a copy to take home as well.

Our Program aims to:

  • foster strong self esteem
  • promote healthy body image
  • deconstruct negative self beliefs and messages
  • promote positive self talk
  • find personal power and maintain it
  • gain understanding about ourselves
  • withstand harassment and put downs
  • understand the cause of destructive behaviour
  • facilitate positive relationships with others
  • have fun


Your role as a mentor is to:

  • gain greater understanding of your own personal development
  • be a healthy role model for the girls in your cluster
  • act as a guide in the 5 follow up meetings ( the following  pages are your guidelines)
  • be available for questions and support during the activities
  • remember that each girl's view is as valuable as the next
  • encourage individuality and diversity
  • have fun with your cluster
